5. Program of discipline
Description of academic discipline, its goals, subject of study and learning outcomes
The purpose of the study of the discipline: the acquisition of students theoretical knowledge and practical skills in working with the hardware part of personal computers, understanding the principles of the PC, the interaction of its components.
Tasks of the discipline: the study of the principle of action, functional and schematic basis, constructive, operational characteristics of various components that are part of the structure of modern personal computers.

Systems of calculation. Binary, hexadecimal, decimal number system. Boolean algebra. Arithmetic operations with integers. Arithmetic operations with fractional numbers.
The concept of information. Units of measurement of information. The concept of information and entropy. Elementary logic: YES / NO. An elementary memory cell. Units of measurement of information.
Encoding systems (ASCII, Unicode, UTF). Files Structure of information in computing systems. Files File names. Folders The structure of the folders. Encoding systems.
Operative and permanent memory. Information carriers. Memory. Permanent memory. Information carriers. File systems. RAM. The structure of the RAM of the PC.
The motherboard structure, its main elements. Motherboard as the main component of the PC. Major parts of the motherboard. Sockets, banks, expansion slots. Motherboard power circuitry. Form factors and standard sizes.
Central processor, northern and southern bridges. CPU: features, structure, main types and characteristics. Cache memory. Northern Bridge: features, structure, main types and characteristics. Southern Bridge: features, structure, main types and characteristics. Modern processor architecture, multi-core processors. CPU and APU.
Data Trunks. The concept of a data bus. Main characteristics of the data bus. Parallel and serial data bus networks. Internal and external data bus buses.
Storage devices. The notion of file systems. Storage devices. Hard Drives: Work Principle, Key Features. HDD and SSD. Optical Drives: CD, DVD, BlueRay. File systems.
Power supply. Power supplies: Types and form factors, main characteristics of power supplies. Basic circuit design and design solutions in modern power supply units.
Basic input / output system. Primary downloader. Basic I / O: basic functions. Types of BIOS carriers: PROM, EPROM, EEPROM, FlashBIOS. Primary downloader. Self-test Hardware and software settings for BIOS and CMOS.
Devices for entering information. Keyboard: Structure, Types. Mouse "Manipulator": structure, types. Trackball Touch screens. Custom Graphic Input Tools.
Video Controllers. Videocontrols: structure, main functions. Drink video controllers. Graphic processors.
Peripherals I / O information. Devices of information output. Input devices: scanners, tuners.
Interaction of the hardware and software components of the PC. The concept of operating systems. The relationship between the primary boot loader, the BIOS, the hard drive and the operating system. Drivers
Computer networks. Network card as an input / output device. Types and basic features of the network cards. Leading (LAN), Wireless (WLAN) Local and Global Computer Networks. Topology of networks and network equipment that provides it. Network switches, hubs, gateways, modems, routers.
High-performance computing systems. Their architecture.
The concept of High Performance Computing. The main types of high-performance computing systems. Distributed computing systems. Clusters The concept of HPC. A modern personal supercomputer. Using the GPU for HPC. NVidia CUDA Technology.
